When will I ever use this? Perceived relevance is a major problem for functions in high school Algebra, and the push for Data Science as an alternative to Algebra has only made this worse. This session introduces a new approach being used in CA and MI, in which students model relationships in relevant, engaging data as an introduction to linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and periodic functions. Think "parabola of best fit"...then extend it to every other function in Algebra 1 and 2! We'll explore student outcomes from the pilot and share free resources for use in your classroom.
