Dr. Maaz Amjad is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Computer Science at Texas Tech University. Before coming to Texas Tech, Dr. Amjad was a Provost Early Career Fellow and Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on using artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, and natural language processing for social good. Specifically, his work focuses on combating misinformation, detecting hate speech, and enhancing public health surveillance. At UT Austin, Dr. Amjad was part of a team developing AI technologies for improving opioid overdose reporting and opioid misuse prevention efforts in Texas. Dr. Amjad also serves as Academic Editor on the editorial board of PLOS ONE journal. He is very passionate about teaching Computer Science to students and preparing them to be future information leaders. Dr. Amjad is committed to promoting underrepresented communities in computing and especially making education accessible for all.
