Programming Problems, Real World Solutions: Food Access, Earth Science, and Agriculture in the CS Classroom

Momentus Edification is a upcoming  nonprofit  with the mission to raise awareness about food insecurity and promote food literacy through education. This presentation focuses on three interdisciplinary computer science activities that brings food insecurity, earth science, and agricultural science into the classroom. Participants will work on hands-on projects using Scratch, Makey Makey, and Raspberry Pi. Making the curriculum suited for any K-12 grade level. Attendees will leave with ideas that can be implemented for applying tech to real-world social challenges with engaging STEM learning.

Participants will explore age-appropriate design challenges that allow students to code with purpose while gaining authentic insight into real-world careers. Each lesson connects academic standards to hands-on problem solving, helping students see how science, math, and technology are used in professional settings. Attendees will leave with practical examples, implementation strategies, and ready-to-use ideas for bringing career-connected coding into elementary classrooms.
