Code, Create, Connect: Hands-On CS for the K-5 Classroom
Monday June 15, 2026 9:45am - 10:45am CDT
Spark curiosity and build foundational computer science concepts in your K-5 classroom! This hands-on session is designed specifically for elementary educators, providing practical strategies and ready-to-use resources for integrating coding and computational thinking into any subject. Participants will rotate through engaging stations to experience a range of cutting-edge educational robotics and accessible hardware, including Ozobot, Makey Makey, Micro:bit, and VEX123. The session will also highlight the power of "unplugged" activities to teach core concepts without a device. Attendees will leave with lesson ideas to use in their classrooms.

CT & Shakespeare
Monday June 15, 2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm CDT
Can iambic pentameter be Pythonic? Of course! Join us to explore the many intersections between Computational Thinking and Shakespearean literature. We will decompose some Shakespearean text, investigate the patterns and abstraction therein, and learn about the algorithms that Shakespearean actors have used for centuries to execute the Bard’s programs from page to stage. The unplugged activities included in this session are equally suitable for English Literature, Computer Science, and Theatre classes.

A Data-First Approach to Algebra
Tuesday June 16, 2026 10:00am - 11:00am CDT
When will I ever use this? Perceived relevance is a major problem for functions in high school Algebra, and the push for Data Science as an alternative to Algebra has only made this worse. This session introduces a new approach being used in CA and MI, in which students model relationships in relevant, engaging data as an introduction to linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and periodic functions. Think "parabola of best fit"...then extend it to every other function in Algebra 1 and 2! We'll explore student outcomes from the pilot and share free resources for use in your classroom.

Algorithmic Art: Celebrating Student Brilliance Through Creative Coding
Tuesday June 16, 2026 11:15am - 12:15pm CDT
Join Code/Art in a fun, hands-on exploration of algorithmic art that celebrates student brilliance through creativity, identity, and problem-solving. Inspired by visual artist Beverly Acha, participants will experience a processing.js creative coding lesson designed for teachers with little or no coding background, including art educators. Learn how using artists’ work as inspiration empowers students to see themselves as capable creators in computer science. View a gallery of algorithmic art created by girls across grade levels and explore how blending art and technology broadens participation, especially for girls, while honoring diverse ways students demonstrate brilliance.

Celebrating Brilliance Through Creative Computing: Low-Barrier CS Experiences for Every Classroom
Tuesday June 16, 2026 1:30pm - 2:30pm CDT
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are already shaping how students learn across content areas. This hands-on session focuses on best practices for integrating AI/ML concepts into computer science and other classrooms, emphasizing computational thinking, ethical use, and student understanding over the use of tools alone. Participants will explore how machine learning systems are trained, identify sources of bias, and experience classroom-ready strategies that connect CS concepts to real-world applications in core subjects. Attendees will leave with practical frameworks, activities, and resources to confidently integrate AI across disciplines.
